Golden Valley Charter Schools is pleased to announce the hiring of a new Executive Director, Caleb J. Buckley, EdD. Dr. Buckley will oversee the Charter Management Organization, central office operations, maintain strong rapport with the school district and guide the schools through growth and expansion. He brings a wealth of wisdom and experience.
Dr. Buckley has a long history in Waldorf education and the charter movement. He grew up in the Bay Area and attended the Marin Waldorf School as a child in the late 70’s. After receiving his Master’s in Political Science and working in business and politics, Caleb completed a Waldorf high school teaching certificate in New Hampshire.
In the 90’s Caleb was a founding teacher of the high school program at the Austin Waldorf School where he worked for nine years. Returning to California in 2004, after the birth of his son, Caleb became the director of the Yuba River Charter School for the next ten years. Most recently, Caleb has served for two years as the administrator of the San Francisco Waldorf School.
This rich perspective of having been a student, teacher, and leader in Waldorf education, both public and private, has positioned Caleb to be an effective leader for this moment when Golden Valley is ready to transition into the future. When Caleb returned to graduate school to earn his doctorate in education at UC Davis, his dissertation focused on charter school collaboration to support better business services and special education.
Caleb’s family includes his wife Genevieve, who is a nurse practitioner, and their four children in high school, middle school, and preschool.
Over the last twelve years, Caleb has already worked closely with Golden Valley’s former leadership. He was a former President of the Alliance for Public Waldorf Education and some teachers and parents will recognize him as Sir Buckley of the Medieval Games in Nevada City. With close ties to the outgoing leadership of the school and a respected reputation within the charter movement, Caleb will be “hitting the ground running” to keep pace the changes in our school community.
He is most accessible by visiting the new location of the Charter Management Office, 1000 River Rock Drive, suite 220, Folsom. He will also be present for many of the schools’ festivals and main events. We look forward to his guidance with our vision of becoming a leading network of Waldorf inspired public charter schools.
