Susan became a teacher in the Educational Support Program at Golden Valley Charter School in 2003. Her passion for teaching children with special learning needs led her in the direction of Special Education, and in 2009 she became our Resource Specialist. Susan has served on Golden Valley’s Board of Trustees, and serves on the Principal’s Curriculum Specialist Committee.
Susan earned a BA in Child Development from California State University, Sacramento in 1976 and received certification from the Waldorf Teacher Training Program at Rudolf Steiner College with an emphasis on Early Childhood Education in 1995. In 2007 she returned to Sacramento State as a graduate student to earn her public school teaching credentials in Multiple Subjects and Special Education with English Language Learner Authorizations.
Prior to, and concurrent with, her teaching at Golden Valley Susan worked for 3 years at Lindamood Bell Learning Center in Sacramento as a reading instructor, and for 10 years for the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America (AWSNA) in a multitude of capacities including public relations, new initiative consultant, membership coordinator, newsletter editor/publisher, publications sales and distribution, and office manager.
Favorite hobbies include knitting, reading, gardening, long walks in nature, and daydreaming. Next to teaching the only ‘job’ she has ever loved more is being a mom.
